Sift are a market leading digital B2B publishing & subscriptions business, based in the heart of Bristol. We believe that we can inspire action everyday, through the creation of amazing content, experiences and insight for our audiences & clients.

We’re on the lookout for a highly skilled and experienced developer to join our talented development team. In addition to a strong grounding in Drupal, we’re looking for someone with experience and interests in emerging technologies, frameworks and ways of thinking. These may include modern frontend and backend frameworks, cloud services, API development and documentation and data processing and analysis.

Our Drupal based platform underpins the succuss of our publishing units. In addition content management, the platform supports product reviews and user reviews, newsletter syncronisation with third parties, logging, sponsorships, ads, trending and related content and pushes the Drupal theming layer to its limits using a template driven architecture.

Over the next two years, we aim to migrate this powerful and complex platform to a more sustainable and scalable infrastructure by utilisation a microservice approach, leaving Drupal to deal with managing content.

Working alongside back-end and front-end developers, Operations, UX and design teams and project managers you’ll estimate, scope, deliver and document features and enhancements to our existing products, helping us to serve ever-richer content and features to our readers. Using existing knowledge and studying emerging technologies, you’ll help shape the direction of our software platforms to solve complex business, data and audience needs.

You are comfortable working both collaboratively and independently, you love rising to new challenges and learning new techniques and technologies, you are adept at managing your own time and you enjoy supporting others and helping them to grow. You take pride in your work and always welcome constructive feedback.

Key responsibilities

  • Research, scope and develop technical solutions on our existing Drupal 7 platform using existing and new technologies. Identify and document the best modules, tools and architecture to achieve requirements.
  • Discover and assess emerging tools and technologies to bring into our product stack.
  • Test, maintain, upgrade and extend existing functionality, ensuring it’s fit for purpose and follows our coding practices.
  • Prioritise work based on importance, feasibility, time required and other factors.
  • Write clear documentation for all projects.
  • Contribute ideas and effort toward internal projects and work as part of a team to find solutions to various problems (i.e. development platforms, documentation etc.)
  • Provide solutions that help the business progress its goals and vision.

Required experience

  • Experience developing feature-rich Drupal 7 websites/products with a solid understanding of Drupal’s core concepts: Entities, Properties, Fields, Form API, Templating, etc.
  • Expertise in building custom modules to solve bespoke requirements.
  • Strong understanding of API development, documentation and best practices.
  • An understanding of how new technologies might solve technical and business problems (cloud computing services, serverless, scaling).
  • A product-development mentality.
  • Ability to prioritise work based on importance, what’s feasible, time required and other influencing factors.
  • Accurate and honest estimating and planning of projects
  • Good at communicating reasoning, ideas and problems.

Job Title: Deputy Editor

Location: New York

Summary is the premier online community serving practicing tax and accounting professionals in the US. The site, predominantly contributor driven, posts practical and useful content for the profession, including articles, blogs, guides, e-books and regular community exchange that help answer the pressing questions of the day.

We are seeking an ambitious business or financial-focused journalist/editor to both contribute to and support AccountingWEB’s editorial flow and help our members be more effective in their work.

The role

The AccountingWEB deputy editor will work closely with the Managing Editor to ensure the site is supporting the needs of its members. As well as possessing good journalistic skills, the assistant/deputy editor will get to know community members by participating in their debates and responding to their queries. This pastoral approach underpins the community spirit and content that set AccountingWEB apart.

The successful applicant will be an ambitious, self-directed writer/editor who has a demonstrable enthusiasm for business issues. Accountants demand accuracy above all else in coverage of technical topics such as tax law and financial reporting/audit regulations. The assistant/deputy editor needs to be methodical, intelligent and able to write about these topics in a clear and readable style.

The position involves a significant amount of production work on the site itself and its email bulletins; strong sub-editing and proofreading skills are essential.  

As part of the position’s community-facing role, the post will require regular attendance at relevant, industry-related events and conferences.  The position may also involve some work on commercial projects with advertising clients.


The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • 7-10 years professional experience either preferably for a B2B or other business-related title
  • 3-5 years digital editing and/or writing  experience
  • working knowledge of social media best practices and functions
  • enthusiastic user of web tools (CMS) and office technology
  • working knowledge of SEO best practices a plus
  • curating and maintaining relations with contributors
  • practical knowledge of content marketing best practices
