New year, new focus: How AccountingWEB is evolving for 2025

As we step into 2025, AccountingWEB is embracing a fresh editorial focus to better serve its professional community. With the accounting and finance world evolving rapidly, our mission is clear: to deliver sharper, more tailored content that aligns with the unique challenges and opportunities our readers face.

“We’re focusing on continual progress and improvement, ensuring every article provides practical insights and actionable value for our readers, “ says Joanne Birtwistle, editorial director for Sift.

Here’s what’s changing and why it matters.

A renewed editorial approach

AccountingWEB’s editorial team is committed to digging deeper into the issues that matter most to accountants, bookkeepers, and finance professionals. We’re focusing on creating high-quality content that solves real-world problems, from navigating regulatory changes to leveraging emerging technologies.

Last year, we moved to a mixed-content format, curating diverse topics in every daily newsletter rather than following rigid schedules like “Tax Mondays” or “Practice Tuesdays.” The change allows us to prioritise relevance and quality a shift that’s been met with overwhelmingly positive feedback.

“Switching to a mixed-content format gave our editorial team the freedom to focus on what’s most important to our audience,” says Birtwistle.

Community-driven insights

One of our unique strengths is AccountingWEB’s community, the intelligence garnered here, as well as through our in-depth research for the Festival of Accounting & Bookkeeping (FAB), and the Accounting Excellence Awards are shaping our editorial strategy in new ways.

At FAB 2025, for instance, we’ve tailored stage content to align with distinct reader profiles:

  • Business of Finance Stage: Supporting CFOs and finance leaders in their strategic roles.
  • Practice Accelerator Stage: Equipping practice owners with the tools to grow and scale.
  • Progressive Firm Stage: Addressing leadership, innovation, and growth for mid-tier and larger firms.
  • Bookkeepers’ Retreat: Tackling the unique challenges of the bookkeeping community.
  • The Circle Stage: Featuring universally important and popular content from industry leaders like Rebecca Benneyworth, Ray McCann, and Paul Aplin.

“These events and one-to-one research interviews provide invaluable insights into the day-to-day challenges our readers face,” says Birtwistle. “That intelligence flows through everything we do, ensuring that AccountingWEB delivers content that’s genuinely helpful and relevant.”

Personalised for the needs of the reader

In 2025, we’re taking another step toward personalisation. Encouraging readers to log in to access content allows us to better understand who engages with what, enabling us to refine our approach and deliver more of what matters most.

“This isn’t about restricting access,” explains Birtwistle. “It’s about serving our core audience better by identifying their needs and tailoring content to meet them.”

This data-driven approach helps us differentiate between loyal readers and one-time visitors, ensuring that AccountingWEB remains the go-to resource for accountants, bookkeepers, and finance professionals.

What’s next for AccountingWEB?

Our intention for 2025 is simple: to help our readers navigate the challenges ahead, whether that means growing their practice, adapting to new regulations, or leveraging the latest technologies. Through sharper content and deeper insights, we aim to give them the tools and inspiration to succeed.

“This is a journey,” says Birtwistle. “We’re evolving to meet your needs, and we’re excited for what lies ahead.”
